EduKink: Social Network Friend policy

Our policy on linking to people as "friends" on tribe.net, fetlife.com, and other social networking sites.

Systems like tribe.net and myspace.com allow people to develop on-line social networks. You are able to identify yourself, join affinity groups ("tribes"), hold discussions, announce events, share pictures, etc. Identities are intended for individuals, but can also be used by couples, groups, and organizations. Identities can become linked to each other, as "friends".

We get a lot of requests to befriend other identities. We try to distinguish between acquaintances, associates, friends, and on-line personas.

The EduKink identity accepts requests from people who we know have attended some of our events, or whom we've met in person. However, sometimes it's hard to match up an on-line identity with a real-world face. When you send a friend request, please let us know how you know us.

In addition to our EduKink identity, we maintain personal identities. Here we must know someone fairly well in the face-to-face world before befriending them.
