EduKink Announcement Posting policy
This article includes both our policy for what we post where, and also our policy for what postings we welcome on the lists we host.
Our posting on our own lists
- Certain of our posts go only to our own lists. This includes various discounts. It also includes certain more private / invitational events.
- We generally only post once for each of our events, rather than spam with frequent reminders. We assume you'll write any events of interest in your datebook.
- An updated list of forthcoming events appears at the bottom of most of our postings.
Our posting on others' lists
- We avoid spamming lists. We will not knowingly post to a group where our material is unwelcome or irrelevant.
- We never post to all lists. Some people just post to every list they've joined. Instead, we consider each message and each list before posting it there.
- Only our own lists receive all our messages. There is no other list that always matches all our announcements.
- Even among our own lists, most messages are only applicable to some of the lists. The EduKink list is the most general and comprehensive.
- For some topics, we have different versions of an announcement, e.g. a sanitized version for lists that are not as effective in keeping out inappropriate readers.
Others posting on our lists
- We are not offering a general purpose events list. There are several good ones already.
- Each of our lists includes a posting policy statement on its front page.
- We delete without warning any messages that we feel are outside the policy.
- We also delete any events that are significantly in conflict or competition with our own events, e.g. something happening at the same time. There are plenty of other places to advertise it.
- Regretably, we must sometimes remove without warning people who seem to be on a list mainly to post unwelcome material.
- We understand that mistakes happen, so don't ban members for occasional minor infractions.
Forwarding others' material to our lists
- We never knowingly forward or re-host copyrighted material without explicit permission. Many of our friends try to pay their bills from their "intellectual property" (IP). We'd rather point people to their site than copy it here.
- If an event appears to be announced publicly, and is likely of interest to our members, we may repost a pointer/link to it here.
- We remove any posting immediately when asked.
